Children's LiturgyChildren's Liturgy is the Liturgy of the Word suitably adapted to make it relevant to the lives and experiences of young children. It gives them the opportunity to understand the Gospel message and participate in the Eucharistic celebration at their own level. (From The Complete Children's Liturgy Book by Katie Thompson) Children's Liturgy sessions take place within the 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon Mass and the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Each session starts with lighting the candle at our altar and saying our "sorry" prayer. We then sing the Gospel acclamation, listen to the Gospel, and follow this up with a discussion to encourage the children to share their understanding of the word of God. We plan activities aimed at helping the children retain the stories and themes; these include puppet shows, felt-board stories and crafts. Most of our dedicated volunteers are parents of young children who participate in this group. However, we also have other adult and teen volunteers who are enthusiastic about helping our children take a more active part in the celebration of their faith. We always welcome new volunteers - more helpers will make expanding our program possible!
