Peaceful, prayerful vigil for unborn children and their parents.

On Saturday, July 4 with Mass at 9am at St. Matthew’s Parish, 16079–88th Avenue, Surrey, followed by a vigil at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

What's wrong with this picture?

Fetus at 18 weeks (4 1/2 months) gestation in the womb.

Our elected politicians make law.  That is one of their key responsibilities.  Those who are not "pro-life" would like you to believe that this is simply a "clump of tissue" or the "product of conception" and as such, has no rights under the law.

We are often astounded at the lack of ethics and good judgment so many of our politicians demonstrate yet they claim to represent the values of all their constituents.  Do you truly believe that when they deny human rights to an unborn human being they represent what you think ?

If I were a betting man, I'd place odds of 100 to 1 that if you showed this picture to your toddler and asked: "Can you tell me what this is?" the answer would be "Baby!"

Have you been deceived or do you also see what your child sees?

Fetal Development

Day 1: Fertilization occurs.
Day 10: The embryo sends out signals to the mother's body.
Day 14: Differentiated pregnancy. The developing embryo signals its presence through placental chemicals and hormones preventing the mother from menstruating.
Day 18: Foundations of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system are already established.
Day 21: The heart begins to beat.
Day 31: The placenta forms a barrier that keeps the mother's blood separate while allowing nutrients and oxygen to pass through to the embryo.
Day 38: All fingers and toes can already be discerned.  The eyes darken as pigmentation is produced.
Day 40: Brain waves an be detected and recorded.
6 Weeks: The liver begins to produce blood cells.  The brain controls movement of limbs.
8 Weeks: Everything is now present that will be found in a fully developed adult.  The fetus responds to touch.  The eyelids seal to protect the light-sensitive eyes.
9 Weeks: Fingerprints are already evident. The fetus will curve its fingers around an object placed in the palm of its hand.
10 Weeks: The fetus has now doubled its size. It can squint, swallow and wrinkle its forehead.
11 Weeks: At this time, the fetus measures only 5.1 cm. yet the face has assumed a baby's profile and muscle movements are becoming more coordinated.
12 Weeks: Baby has sleep/wake cycles, digests food, swallows, excretes and breathes amniotic fluid, turns its head, curls its toes and opens and closes its mouth.
13 Weeks: Fine hair has begun to grow on the head and sexual differentiation has become apparent.
14 Weeks: Baby has doubled in weight and gas grown to about 10 cm. Eyebrows and hair appear
15 Weeks: Baby's middle ear has developed to the point where he or she can hear music, the sound of your voice and the mother's heart beating.
16 Weeks: External genital organs have developed and may be seen by ultrasound.  The umbilical cord transports a phenomenal 300 quarts of fluid per day and completes a round trip of fluids every 30 seconds.
17 Weeks: Baby has fully formed limbs, skin and muscle and can move its joints. Newly formed finger and toe nails begin to appear
18 Weeks: Baby opens and closes his hands, sucks on his thumb.
19 Weeks: The baby's daily intake of amniotic fluid increases and the stomach is prepared to absorb it. The kidneys filter and excrete the waste. Baby's movements become more noticeable.
20 Weeks: The baby has grown to approximately 25 cm and is growing in strength.
21 Weeks: White blood cells now begin to develop the baby's immune system.
22 Weeks: A white protective coating covers baby's skin to protect its skin as it floats in amniotic fluids.
23 Weeks: Baby moves in response to external sounds. A sudden noise may cause him to be startled and jump. Its heartbeat can be heard through a stethoscope.
24 Weeks: Baby is building muscles in his limbs and vital organs are well developed however lungs still need to mature in preparation for breathing air.
25 Weeks: Baby has grown to about 35 cm and is beginning to fill out.
26 Weeks: Lungs begin to mature and develop the baby's bronchi.
27 Weeks: The baby's eyelids begin to part and baby opens her eyes.
28 Weeks: The baby has grown another 2 cm and now weighs about 1 kilogram
29 Weeks: From this point on, baby will put on about 200 grams and grow by 1 cm per week
30 Weeks: Baby fills the uterus and curls up with knees bent, arms and legs crossed and head bowed downs on his chest.

Pro-Life Mass and Vigil
Vigils are held each first Saturday of the month under the chaplaincy of Rev. Mark Schwab.

The Prayer Apostolate was instituted in 1995 and Archbishop Exner has stated that the vigils "show the importance of prayer and public witness to our defense of the unborn child."

Euthanasia

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church
2258 Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning and until its end: no one can under any circumstances claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.
2276 Those whose lives are diminished or weakened deserve special respect. Sick or handicapped persons should be helped to lead lives as normal as possible.
2277 Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable.

In a quiet and reverent ceremony officiated by Father Patrick Tepoorten, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, our Knights of Columbus council have placed a Memorial plaque to the Unborn Child in the garden just  in front of our church calling to mind the plight of those young lives who suffered a horrible death deprived of the very basic human right to life taken without their consent.

We pray to the Lord their soul to keep.

If everyone would take only according to their needs and would leave the surplus to the needy,
then no one would be rich, no one poor, no one in misery
